ASD is a developmental disorder that affects how an individual interacts with the world around them. It is characterised by difficulties in social interaction and communication and the presence of restricted or repetitive patterns of thoughts, behaviours and/or interests. As ASD is a spectrum, the characteristics vary in severity and present differently for each individual. We believe that each child is unique and will have their own strengths and challenges. Access to the right supports can allow individuals with ASD to be as independent as possible and lead meaningful lives. Due to the varied nature of ASD, ABA Horizons provides specialist interventions that are tailored to meet the individual needs of the person.
If you are concerned your child may have ASD, make an appointment to speak to your GP about your concerns and getting a referral for a paediatric assessment. You can also receive a referral for a paediatric assessment for other professionals such as occupational therapists and physiotherapists. The specifics of the paediatric assessment process varies between local authorities. In some areas you may be seen by a team of professionals, in other areas you may be seen solely by one professional.
