ABA Horizons is bringing our expertise to the UK to help those individuals on the spectrum, and their families. As it wasn’t long ago in the USA when people with Autism didn’t have access to the services they needed.
Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA Therapy) was one such inaccessible service. The S.819 (111th): Autism Treatment Acceleration Act of 2009, was a victory for those individuals with autism and their families. This legislature ensured those individuals and affected families could finally access the services they needed. Consequently, many families quality of life has improved. This came as a huge blow to the US Health Insurance industryHowever, some families were still left behind. Fortunately, a few years later in 2012, more progress was made. In 2012, the founders of ABA Horizons were part of a team that helped ABA therapy to be recognised by the US government-funded healthcare program for low-income families: Medicaid. In South Florida, José and Cary Merida have been providing ABA therapy to people on the spectrum for over 20 years. As the current situation regarding ASD and effective service provision is not dissimilar to the US, they are looking to bring their expertise and knowledge to the UK.
ABA Horizons was created because of one question:If USA citizens diagnosed with ASD have easy access to ABA, then why can’t those in the UK have the same? The Mission is simple: to enrich the lives of patients, their families, and their communities. The Vision for those on the spectrum and their families is to have access to the ABA services they need. This will help them achieve the highest level of independence and integration into their community. It includes a UK where early diagnoses and intervention of ASD is a priority of the NHS.Our Values are based on evidence.
ABA Horizons practices ABA in accordance with the standards and regulations set out by the Behaviour Analyst Certification Board (BACB). The services we provide are ethical, effective and practical.
