It was a very frightening period.
For a while, I was terrified that every dull ache or twinge of back pain was a return of the cancer.
From August 1995 to August 2005 I had regular appointments – monthly for three years, every three months for three years, six monthly for two years, then yearly until I’d done 10 years – blood test, chest x-ray and a ‘poke about’ from the consultant. As the time passed the anxiety and worry would become less, the roller coaster ride would become easier. Finally after 10 years, the roller coaster ride came to an end.
Not the end of the journey, just the beginning of another episode, another new normal, another me was born…………..
