JS Training Services – About

Early career

Born in May a few years ago in Nottingham, Jamie was treated for Testicular Cancer in 1995. Between 1988 and 2003, Jamie worked in the construction industry as a Quantity Surveyor across the East MIdlands . Once Jamie was three years clear, in 1998 he set up a support group for men and families affected by testicular cancer.  In the same year Jamie began telling his story for numerous charities and organisations. All of Jamie’s experiences led him to become involved in public and patient involvement in Nottingham.

Self Help Groups and User Involvement

This increasing involvement and support in the cancer arena led Jamie to Macmillan Cancer Relief (as it was known). In 2003, Jamie left construction and joined the Third Sector. During 2003-2008, Jamie worked from Leicester to the Scottish borders, Liverpool to Hull and the Isle of Man. And in 2006 moving to the South East, covering that region.

Working with health care professionals, and people affected by cancer setting up support groups and user involvement groups. Jamie developed his knowledge working across Health & Social Care, during the changes in services, provision and finances.

Jamie moved to the MS Society in 2008 and Rethink Mental Illness in 2014 working alongside people affected by a long term condition and health professionals to empower them to work in partnership together, develop new models of excellence, services and make a difference for the future. In May of 2013 Jamie set-up JS Training Services, putting all of that knowledge and experience in one place.

From 2008 Jamie has worked for Macmillan Cancer Support, running numerous training sessions including Macmillan at Work.

Jamie has chaired a fundraising group for Macmillan Cancer Support, volunteered on the SOS Bus in Colchester for 10 years, was a Trustee for National Cancer Support and was Chair and Trustee for AARCA (Assisting Adults Recover from Childhood Abuse).

Jamie now lives in Colchester and during his spare time runs the odd 10k and Half Marathon.
